Now in its 5th year, Cardo’s Farm Project is a community farm and education center that uses sustainable agriculture to engage the Denton community and to teach the significance of farming in our daily lives.
Who you are:
You are super excited to learn about and gain experience with sustainable vegetable farming, farm-based education, and community engagement. You work well independently AND are enthusiastic about working with a spirited team. You are organized, dependable, and flexible. You won’t mind coming into contact with dirt, manure, and critters. You can lift 40 lbs. Preferably, you have experience working with others in a physically active environment. Farming experience is not required; you’ll be trained on the job.
The gig is physically demanding farm work involving all aspects of our farm’s production and community involvement.
· Hands-on Farm work: As a member of the farm crew apprentices will primarily work in the fields. Farm tasks will include, planting, harvesting, and processing produce for wholesale orders, Farm Shares, and Farmers’ Markets, and farm maintenance, including weeding, hoeing, irrigating, weed eating and projects such as carpentry and general farm clean-up.
· Leading volunteers: You will engage and work alongside a diverse group of community members on the farm and will be leading farm volunteers through a variety of farm tasks.
· Community Outreach: You’ll help to engage the community with farm happenings. Interns will connect with customers and consumers at the farmers market, Farm Share Pickup, and special events.
Summer 2015: May 15-Aug 15 (4 months)
Interns will commit to 2-3 weekly shifts totaling 10-12 hours per week, and must be able to attend a training session on May 16th, from 2:30-4:30pm.
Mondays & Tuesdays: 7-11am
Wednesdays: 7-11am & 12:30-4:00
Fridays: 7-11am & 12:30-4:00
This a part-time seasonal, unpaid volunteer position. Farm Apprentices will receive training in sustainable agriculture and experience with community leadership. Apprentices may also take home farm produce on a weekly basis. Limited vacation time will be permitted.
